Solsken, choklad och tamponger
With Norah Jones in the background I am currently sipping on the days third (or was it eight) cup of joe. Outside the sun is shining and just a moment ago the news informed that the warm weather is just here for a short while. And to go get it while it’s hot.
So I thought ”okay, lets make the most of the upcoming weekend”. But no, the short while the news was referring to was one day. One day!
(Since the weather app tells another story I am making the executive decision to trust the app as my source).
But doesn’t that suck though? To have the news telling you to enjoy one mere day of sun? As if (#AliciaSilverstone) every single person in Sweden doesn’t already live their lives with that mindset?! Hello?! Everyone who has ever visited Sweden or who knows a Swede knows that we act notoriously crazy when the sun shows it’s face. That’s the time when we enjoy because even if there is hope that the sun will turn up again, it really isn’t something we count on. From experience tracing back to the cradle.
Anyways, this particular ”news”-broadcast reminded me strongly of the period-app.
For those who aren’t familiar, there is this amazing app that helps us keep track of when it’s time to stock up with chocolate and tampons. The worst part of this is that as soon as we have finally reached the end of the hell-week of cramps, constant pain, soreness and delicate temper, that’s when the app begins the countdown to the next time you will go through it all over again.
Personally I feel that the app could end a period cheering: ”You made it. It’s over and now you can finally sleep again. Great going - you’re the best!”. Before beginning the countdown again.
No matter how long the sun is here this time around, the feeling of looking out over the garden and see it be lit up is unbeatable. Could be that it somehow reminds me of that hour me and a friend spent on a stonewall looking out over the vineyard of Fonterutoli in Tuscany. Both with each a book in hand we sat a couple of feet apart and enjoyed a moment of aloneness together. Sweet summertime.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Now it’s still spring and sunny. And it is Friday, a day that is made to be sipped on with a glass of wine. Something that can be fully enjoyed independent of the weather.
